i think the best way to make money is not to buy silly rubbish that u dont actually need for instants many people get sick to death of trying to sell things at a reasonable price and have no luck so they lower and lower until u cant resist to buy it.. its a bad move because imagine if they cant sell it really cheep how the hell are u ? the best thing to do is do quests get money and save and save until u get the thing u want and dont get draged into silly buys

He brought back an ancient thread, three times in a row.
Money is never a problem for me, I just farm when I need more, and always keep about 100k surplus.

I haven't seen a post this wrong in a while... you can still farm 100k an hour... fissure armor is not tough to get since I got enough money to do so in a short period of time... underworld is still able to be farmed... running hasn't been nerfed, just prices are lower because demand is lower... I wouldn't call buying money off ebay an honest way to get fissure.
Rather than sitting here whining about this subject, go out and think of ways to make money yourself. If you think of something no one else though of, hell you will probably make a lot of money off it before someone figures it out.
::edit::
Wow this is an old thread, however that post is still terribly wrong =/

this is probably gonna change after me mentioning it, but if you farm wind riders in maguuma jungle, you will come out with loads of golds, the best I got was a max dmg butterfly sword req 8 and I've forgotten the other mods, but it was good, I accidently sold it to merchant for 400 gold.

When I started off with w/mo, I farmed charr outside piken and sold the fur squares you got for exchanging the charr hides. I did that to get drok armour and to get the 100k gold Superior Abs and Sup runes, Sup Sword was 21k and I forget what Sup Strength but I wear all those today on kurzick armour. Looking at the rune prices today, it crushes my soul!
That armour let me farm hydras outside augury where I got my perfect items/mods, pretty much got all my equipment for other characters and w/mo there.
Another I do is vermin, average per hour for me is 9k gold. This is slow and repetitive, but very safe and consistant farming. I figured out my farming build by accident and do take pride in never looking on the internet for best builds, although I do question who the hell puts mending/baltha spirit on their warrior [no energy regen weeee]

Well I for one make plenty of money just playing the game, and by the way they can nerf all they wan't there will always be places to farm. I still farm griffons in the desert, it's in a different place and if you can't hadle a sand Wurm or two solo then it's not for you and bot's can't really get there. Second, in cantha I make about 2-3k whenever I'm just doing quests and 1-2k in each mission.
How? Pick up everything! Identify Everything (this can often double the value of even the white items) and sell it to Merchants (Unless it's a real good gold) it really annoys me when people just leave everything that drops for them lying on the ground and only pick up special items. Whites often sell for more than blues anyway. in mainland Cantha on average the white items are worth about 50g sometimes up to 120g. So get 20 of them, 20x50=1000g 1k before you add in quest rewards and gold drops.
I never have to farm much really, I make enough money for everthing I want just playing the game. (This includes a set of 15k armor for each character, most my older characters have 2)
If you think you're going to make 100k in an hour, it's not going to happen unless you're really lucky in an elite mission. Maybe 30k if you're a drok runner. 10-16k farming in the desert (without selling golds)... and so on. Buying and selling can make a lot of money but that also takes a lot of very boring time... I hate even trying to sell good golds...
Anyway if you can't tell It really annoys me when people whine about making money... they just aren't patient enough... and if they can't spend an hour or so farming or doing advanced runs (Not running the begginer missions or quests) then if they want money they'll have to get it from E-Bay like most of those you see with FOW armor and all the best weapons.
by the way Hyaon... why in the world are you putting all Sup runes on a warrior When I'm playing a monk and I have a warrior in a group that does that it annoys me to no end. In a group in PVE the tank is supposed to take damage so they need to have their max health and armor as well as some stances. 4 more damage on special attacks is not worth the -75 health of the superior Swordsmanship and 2% armor penetration is not worth it either. The fact that people will pay 10k or so for 15^50 rather than a 14^50 weapon is just silly. 1% of 22 isn't even 1/4 point damage

While it is all nice to have the best of everything in the game, I would rather play through the game myself, find things that would be useful myself, and earn it through playing the game properly. I paid money for the game, so I want to get the most i can from it.
I would feel cheated if I felt I had to goto ebay or an extortionate trader to get the best armour or weapon in the game. In the end, we all get from the game what we want, and I am still enjoying PvE very much indeed. I am sure that once I am done with that, I will goto PvP and see how I do.
But either way, I'd rather play the game to earn my own weapons and armour. Drops are great, and we all use drops, but buying for extortionate prices.... no thanks.

You mean aside from...
Saving every piece of gold you can.
Selling everything you find to a trader.
Selling rare items to players for large or stupid amounts of money.
Salvaging things for runes or upgrades or materials and selling them.
Why people think its gonna be easy to make money the first time you play GWs I dont know.
Its bound to be hard the first time round (assuming it is your first time playing). Once you get yourself a lvl20 whos completed atleast one of the games, youl make 1k easily.
Especially when you reach the high-end areas where high-end chests are and you get more expensive drops.
Just be patient and PLEASE dont become on of those people who stands in a city and sounds "give me money, please"!
I appreciate that you have armor and weapons to buy.
If your in Cantha youl get max armor and weapons in no time.
But if you in tyria it will be harder and longer to get max gear.
My advice is to save yourself buying new, stronger armor in every city in tyria and instead get to lions arch, go to cantha and buy max gear there and then travel back.
Then you can spend the other 3/4 of the game saving money to get 15k or what ever else you want.

No, I'm just enjoying the experience and doing some random roaming around the countryside between missions. Enjoying the whole game mechanic if you like. I'm not the begging bowl type
But, I always consider the side quests and "making what you want" from a game is a very personal thing, and helps you to get more from the game itself.
I've had a couple of gifts from higher members in my guild (they have been playing quite a while now) and while they are powerful, I don't have the skills to use them. I'd rather not offend my friends, so I'll keep them in storage and try them out later on when I have the ability to properly wield them. I may sell them later on, but these were gifts.... I was not charged anything for them and they are pretty nice.
I don't make money at a huge rate, but I am always happy to sell my drops and make what money I can. I would happily give a weapon away at a reasonable price than sell it to a trader to sell on at an stupidous profit.
Again, it's getting our moneys worth from the game that I am enjoying the most. I feel I'm gonna enjoy this for a long, long time.

Funny thing about this is that, the best method to get money IMO is farming for gold, mats, greens, then sell them to people who already have money to spend. However, ANET nerfs farming and is pretty much against it indirectly. So..in the end you are stuck with just opening chests and doing missions. But even with chests, you need tons of cash to start out with, and luck is also needed, both for the drop and for actually getting a buyer.

/rant: Oh dear, when are people going to accept that Warior =/= Tank and Tank =/= Warrior? That extra 3 mastery does more than you'd think in the long run (10 seconds of IAS 16 mastery = an extra 30 damage, at least and 10 seconds isnt very long at all in GW,) and an experienced warrior with 300 health is always better than a total idiot with 600+ - You forget that warriors can heal themselves perfectly well, provided they have the sense to invest points in tactics, which, by the way, is the ultimate farming attribute, hands-down, imo. Btw, I have 2 warriors and 2 monks, so I've been on both sides of the coin and I much prefer having a warrior in my party that can contribute towards the damage output - warriors, incase anyone didnt know, are quite good at that, PvE or PvP. True, in some situations in PvE, necros may have the edge for damage, but 75% of the time, a warrior loaded with 3 or 4 attack skills can outdamage that SS necro in the party. And since warriors can stack conditions so well, that just adds to the output. Still, I wonder how many warriors here use Hamstring regularly? I know I do. Excellent skill IMO and makes squishies lives much easier if theres a big melee mob about. Because, you cant guarantee getting all the aggro all the time as a warrior - there are just too many factors. /endrant, sorry.
Back to the actual subject of this thread, I would say myself that your estimates of how much money one can make seem realistic. I agree, 100k is a ridiculous amount to make in 1 hour - the only way you can make that sort of money in such a short time is if you have a stock of greens/minipets, etc...
Otherwise, 20k in the desert using a high damage build in the right spots is about the max you can get out of solo farming, unless you get lucky with ectos in the u/w, (unlikely, and even then, the consistant amount of gold you can make would only be about the same.) Of course there's the Vermin in Xuquang Skyway - a quick 5 minute run will net about 1k - W/E or E/W is the best combo there imo

In my opinion I lost count of the times someone said Wow nice fow armor dude, And i could only count bout 4 times someone said , wow dude u got skill, well played... if you know what i mean -_- , People are too shallow. They dont care if you got a Elite skill, they care more if you got a nice weapon, lately these days , most players are like that and I everyone in this game is a *** ashole, Thats what i see mostly anyways.
Oh and about the people that ask how you make money ?Its cuz their expecting a answear of : Oh i can show you how to make 100k in a hour mate. Lost count of people who asked me that when i say WTB ... pay up to 100k + xx ecto, Then they shut up when i tell them, " Well to be honest it took me about a week of farming to get that ", And they go away and ask someone else and they hope for a answear " You can make 100k in a hour" people that moan about economy are just too LAZY to do something about it, in my opinion.

Anyway, anyone else suspious that this may lead to:
